The vote of no-confidence instrument is an opportunity for the opposition to come into the spotlight, National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova said in a Bulgarian National Television  “I have the feeling that they have started to have a vote of no confidence in the order of each minister and thus draw attention to themselves. This takes time, but on the other hand I think it keeps both the government and the majority alert and careful, so there is a positive side,” Kiselova noted.

On the subject of the detention of the Mayor of Varna and the now former deputy mayor of Sofia, as well as about Continue the Change’s opinion that this was political persecution, Kiselova said: “If we go back, in previous months there was a statement from other parliamentary groups that their mayors were being attacked. When someone is elected, they are now the mayor of everybody, and because they have no immunity, at any moment they could be subject to criminal proceedings”. She urged for some patience until the relevant investigations are concluded.

She argued that the opposition cannot be untouchable and added that she personally did not accept that the Anti-Corruption Commission should have investigative functions. “That however was one of the arguments for fighting corruption. These are the same colleagues who are now accusing of repression. So when you have created a certain legislation, you have to be aware that it can be applied to you," the National Assembly Chair said.

Kiselova also commented on the topic of Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone, noting that this is an entry "into the core of the member states". She noted that this will pose new challenges to every authority. “There will be issues in the future on which we will have to be pro-European. My personal understanding is that Bulgaria is within the best possible place to be a member at the moment and this ensures that in the turbulent geopolitical soup we are tied to something more stable,” she said, adding: “So, Bulgaria's pro-European future, I think, is currently without alternative”.
