site.btaTISP MP Petrov: Topic of Environmental Protection Cannot Be Turned into Circus

During Wednesday's parliamentary sitting focused on the no-confidence motion in the Zhelyazkov cabinet due to its failures in environmental policies, There Is Such a People (TISP) MP Dragomir Petrov said that the topic of environmental protection should not be turned into a circus, while scaremongering about hazardous waste with absolutely no evidence is irresponsible. He stated that accusing institutions of deliberate inaction without knowing the regulatory framework is politically unprofessional.

According to Petrov, the no-confidence motion is full of sensational accusations but is devoid of real facts and arguments and lacks basic understanding of how the state functions. He added: "Because to claim that the government is inactive, when the responsibility lies with the mayors by law, is either ignorant or deliberately misleading the public. No government in the last 15 years has ignored the problem."

The MP said that the current government, even though only 5 months old, is already working on problems such as illegal landfills, which have been growing for decades. He likened the reasons behind the motion to "cheap judicial pleading" that throws accusations in all directions, mayors, ministries, institutions, while alluding to organized crime and ecological apocalypse. He criticized the sponsors of the motion for trying to grab attention without offering any solutions.

In response to Petrov, Velichie Deputy Floor Leader Krasimira Katincharova said that the goal of the motion is not to offer solutions but to criticize the government and to lower the public's trust in it. She added: "We are not in government to offer you solutions. We propose to produce a reality show in one municipality [that shows] exactly how we can deal with waste quickly."
