Weightlifter Karlos Nasar received the Man of the Year award at a ceremony in Sofia on Thursday. Nasar, who will become Olympic, world and European champion in 2024, won the award in competition with the creator of the first Bulgarian-language artificial intelligence, BgGPT, Prof. Martin Vechev, and with producers Ivan Hristov and Andrey Arnaudov for their biographical film Gundy: Legend of Love.
National Assembly Chair Natalia Kiselova said during the ceremony that these awards can be seen "as a call not to emphasize only the shortcomings of our society, but also to celebrate the good deeds, which I hope will happen more and more in the days ahead," quoted Parliament’s press service.
The Man of the Year award has been presented annually since 1990 to individuals with exceptional contributions to Bulgarian society in the fields of sports, culture, science, media and social engagement.
Awards were also given in the Volunteer category, to Kristian Talev-Krisko for his work as the founder of the Sunny Children 2024 Foundation, and in the Legend category - to the actor and acting teacher Prof. Ivaylo Hristov.
