Sofia Municipal Council belongs to [GERB leader Boyko] Borissov and [Movement for Rights and Freedoms - New Beginning leader Delyan] Peevski, the State belongs to them also, and all Sofia residents are paying the price right now, as these two are trying to exert pressure on Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, Continue the Change (CC) Co-Chair Kiril Petkov said on Thursday, speaking of the protests, which stopped public transport in Sofia on Wednesday and continued on Thursday, with public transport workers demanding wage increases.
Petkov pointed out that Sofia Municipal Council is governed by the same economic majority that also rules the State. "Now the Mayor has no money for kindergartens, no money from the municipal programme and suddenly he has to pay huge sums in connection with the salaries of people from the transport sector", Petkov noted, adding that the principal of the transport sector is the Municipal Council, which is also part of the ruling majority, who appointed the heads of the boards of the municipal transport companies. As of tomorrow [Friday], they will be able to control the Sofia Metro as well, Petkov commented.
He said that the Peevski-Borissov duo, which he believes runs the country, is now trying to apply the same approach to Sofia Mayor Terziev through the Municipal Council. All Sofia residents are paying the price, as they cannot go to work, their children cannot go to school, because they are trying to put pressure on Terziev from both sides, namely from the Municipal Council and from the State, Petkov stressed.
To a question related to the protests by the staff of public-service media, Petkov replied that the State was actually unable to provide normal funds to public media, as the state budget included absurd increases in the salaries of the Interior Ministry, the National Agency for National Security, and the State Agency Technical Operations.
