Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning Tuesday argued that swift rejection of the President's euro referendum proposal was needed to calm the Bulgarian citizens and the EU. “The most important thing is that, by whatever means, and as quickly as possible, President Rumen Radev’s proposal for a referendum should be rejected, so that calm can be restored among Bulgarian citizens and our European partners,” said MRF - New Beginning MP Kalin Stoyanov, speaking to reporters in Parliament on Tuesday. “As far as I understand, National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova has done just that,” he added.

President Rumen Radev submitted to Parliament a proposal for a national referendum with the question "Do you agree to have Bulgaria adopt the single European currency euro in 2026?". Earlier on Tuesday the proposal was rejected by the Parliament leader as inadmissible.

According to the MP, the referendum proposal represents the “magnitude of audacity by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, who is, unfortunately, also the supreme divider of the nation", to use Stoyanov's words about the President.

He said that whether the move is illegal or in violation of parliamentary procedure are questions that will be discussed in Parliament Wednesday.
