Undeclared currency worth nearly BGN 120,000 leva was found by customs officers at the Lesovo border checkpoint under the mattress on a bed in the driver's cabin of a truck, the Customs Agency said on Monday.

The truck with a foreign registration arrived at the Lesovo border checkpoint on April 30 on an outbound route to Turkiye. In the customs control area, the driver, a Turkish citizen, presented documents stating that he was transporting goods from the Netherlands to Turkiye and stated that he had nothing else to declare. During the customs inspection, inspectors found 10 bundles of euro banknotes of various denominations, wrapped in rubber bands, under the mattress on the upper bed in the driver's cabin. A total of EUR 61,300, a BGN of 119,892, were found to be undeclared.

The undeclared currency was confiscated. An administrative offense report was drawn up against the Turkish citizen, and administrative criminal proceedings were initiated.
