National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova met with Shumen Mayor Hristo Hristov during her visit to the region for observances of 1,160 years since the Christianization of the Bulgarian people and 1,170 years since the creation of the Bulgarian alphabet.
The two discussed key regional issues, including the shortage of medical professionals in some municipalities. Kiselova noted that Shumen is less affected due to its capacity to train healthcare workers locally. They also addressed infrastructure challenges in Northern Bulgaria, particularly road conditions, as Kiselova expressed hope that Regional Development Minister Ivan Ivanov - originally from the region - would prioritize projects in the Northeast.
The need for a fair balance in setting household waste fees was a third issue the two sides discussed.
Kiselova confirmed that delayed construction projects are expected to resume during the summer, and emphasized.
The Mayor thanked the parliament leader for her commitment and highlighted the importance of accelerating work on major infrastructure initiatives, including the Hemus Motorway. He also pointed to Shumen’s strong economic growth, thriving industrial park, and efforts to create opportunities for young people.
