Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – New Beginning Leader Delyan Peevski said Tuesday the government is doing good work for the people and the most important thing now is how it handles the aftermath of the floods in the Montana region, Northwest Bulgaria.
Asked whether the government had achieved anything in its first 100 days that would secure MRF-New Beginning’s continued support, Peevski replied, “Of course, it does so every day,” Peevski said.
“The key issue now is how they respond to the floods, how swiftly they will compensate people and restore what has been damaged,” Peevski said. He urged the ruling coalition – GERB-UDF, There Is Such a People (TISP) and BSP-United Left – to restart parliamentary work without delay.
Peevski dismissed as “another falsehood” National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova’s claim that she would request MPs’ immunity after the recess. “Once again there is concealment, crimes and impunity,” he said, calling on Kiselova to process the requests filed by acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov.
On the pension-reform roadmap, Peevski said it must match the country’s financial capacity. “We will examine it thoroughly and support any proposal that is reasonable and benefits the people,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Peevski met Hayredin Mayor Todor Aleksiev, secured the municipality’s commitment to join the “New Beginning for the Development of Regions” strategy, and pledged rapid assistance to rebuild infrastructure and homes damaged by the recent floods.
