site.btaBird Flu Outbreak Detected in Village in South Central Bulgaria

A bird flu outbreak has been detected in a mulard duck farm in the village of Drangovo, Brezovo municipality, Plovdiv region (South Central Bulgaria), the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) said. The farm raises some 8,000 ducks.

A three-kilometre protection zone, which includes Brezovo and the village of Choba in the region, has been established around the affected site. A 10-kilometre surveillance zone has been set up in Brezovo Municipality, encompassing the villages of Tyurkmen, General Nikolaevo, Otets Kirilovo, Drangovo, Zlatosel, Bolyarino, Zelenikovo, and the town of Rakovski, as well as in Bratya Daskalovi Municipality in Stara Zagora Region, including the villages of Pravoslav, Kolyu Marinovo, Granit, and Veren.

A 3-kilometer safety zone has been established around the affected animal breeding site, which includes the village of Drangovo and the village of Otets Kirilovo and a 10-kilometre monitored zone that includes the village of Zelenikovo, the village of Zlatosel, the village of Padarsko, the village of Borets, the village of Streltsi, the village of Varben, the village of Choba, the town of Brezovo and the village of Bolarino, as well as the town of Rakovski and the quarter of General Nikolaevo, the town of Rakovski.

Measures have been put in place to control the outbreak. Actions will be taken to cull the sick and contact birds on the premises.

An epizootic survey and monitoring of the movements of poultry and other birds, eggs, products, and animal by-products derived therefrom, poultry feed, and of the means of transport related to the technological process in the facilities are being carried out.

Poultry meat and products coming from a farm where an outbreak of bird flu has been detected do not pose a risk to human health.
