Within his participation in the EU's Justice and Home Affairs Council here on Thursday, Bulgarian Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov talked with his Spanish counterpart Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry reported. The Spanish Interior Minister confirmed the position that Schengen enlargement is a priority for the Spanish EU Council Presidency.
Stoyanov thanked for the constant support for Bulgaria's Schengen membership and expressed certainty that the long accession process will conclude successfully by the end of 2023 with the adoption of a position decision of the Council in December.
The sides discussed the continuing coordination of efforts and actions to that end: Bulgaria's efforts to join Schengen and the results achieved, including in the dialogue with the Netherlands and Austria. The two ministers also noted the excellent cooperation in the field of home affairs, which is producing results in all areas of countering crime.
