Ninety-nine persons, of whom 81 foreigners illegally residing in Bulgaria, were detained during a large-scale police operation for countering illegal migration, the Interior Ministry said in a press release Wednesday. The operation was conducted across Bulgaria on Wednesday at the order of the Interior Ministry Secretary General.
Participating were nearly 5,700 officials of National Police, Sofia Directorate of Interior, Regional Directorate of Interior, Border Police, General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, and Migration with 1,849 units of equipment. They checked 874 addresses, 9,340 vehicles, and 14,153 people.
As a result of the operation, four persons on the national wanted list were detained, various narcotic substances were seized, and 16 pretrial proceedings were launched.
