The Chairs of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Internal Security and Public Order, Yordan Tsonev (Movement for Rights and Freedoms, MRF) and Desislava Atanasova (GERB-UDF), together with the Finance Minister and the Deputy Interior Ministerwill discuss the financial issues related to the activities of the disaster relief commission of the Interior Ministry. The discussion will be held at a meeting Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the National Assembly, GERB-UDF flood leader Desislava Atanasova told journalists in Parliament.
Commenting on Vazrazhdane’s request for the resignation of Defence Minister Todor Tagarev made at the beginning of the plenary meeting the same day, Atanasova said that there has been speculation about Bulgaria's commitment to help Ukraine. "All means and efforts including on the part of the political parties need to be directed towards unity so we can overcome the damage caused by the natural disaster; there will be plenty of time to demand resignations, " Atanasova said. She added that political speculation at a time when day of mourning has been declared is intolerable.
"I followed the weather forecasts which warned of such intense rainfall; maybe half the responsibility lays on the institutions, the local authorities; now we have to gather ourselves as a nation in order to prevent people from suffering,” the MP pointed out. She recalled that politicians used the situation with the flood-damaged villages in Karlovo region last year for PR purposes. A year later, however, the affected people say that they still have not overcome the damage and consequences of the disaster. "I do not want to speculate on who ruled when, whether it was a caretaker government or a regular government, who has fulfilled their commitments," Atanasova said.
