An exhibition of Botticelli’s illustrations for The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri will open on August 5 in the Crystal Garden in Sofia, marking the 580th anniversary of Sandro Botticelli’s birth, the organizers said.

The exhibition, titled Botticelli’s Illustrations for Dante’s Divine Comedy, features 28 panels showcasing the Renaissance master’s iconic visual interpretations. The selected images cover the three parts of the poem – InfernoPurgatorio, and Paradiso. Each panel includes a reproduction of the illustration, a brief description of the scene, and an interpretation tracing the connection between Botticelli’s artistic language and Dante’s poetic universe.

In addition, two special video materials are available on the “Filizi 33” platform: the documentary Sandro Botticelli: Illustrations for the Inferno, narrated by Itzhak Fintzi, and the original lecture Dante Alighieri: The Path to Happiness.

Both works were created by Associate Professor Dr. Liza Boeva, who is also the author and director of the project.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until August 18.
