Parliament Tuesday re-elected Dimitar Radev as Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) for another six-year term. Radev was nominated by the GERB-UDF coalition and was supported by the Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF). A total of 155 MPs voted in favour of his nomination, 67 against (from Vazrazhdane, the Bulgarian Socialist Party and There Is Such a People).
The other candidate for the position was Lyubomir Hristov, nominated by Vazrazhdane. A total of 39 MPs voted in favour, 145 against, and 47 MPs abstained.
Radev's first term ended in 2021 but he stayed on since none of the two nominees for the post received Parliament's support at the time.
Before his re-election, Radev promised to ensure continuity of the achievements made during his previous term. He said he would work to achieve a very high degree of integration of the banking sector into the euro area's financial infrastructure.
