"We will start working on the draft budget for 2023, which I hope will be submitted to the National Assembly in a few weeks - it will have a 3% deficit and no tax increase," Finance Minister Assen Vassilev said on Tuesday at his inauguration, his Ministry’s press office reported.
Regarding the assumption of new debt in the budget, Vassilev explained he had to see the estimates first, but noted that the proposed deficit would decrease and the amount of debt should also decrease.
Former caretaker Finance Minister Rositsa Velkova pointed out that the fiscal reserve has BGN 10 billion, that the caretaker government has already submitted a base budget with a high deficit, but it will serve as a foundation enabling the law to be revised according to the decisions the regular cabinet will take.
