European projects during the 2014-2020 programming period in Pleven region, North Central Bulgaria, were discussed by participants in the local conference under the project "Europe in Bulgaria: Common Future", which took place on Wednesday in the National Press Club of BTA in the regional city.

Regional disparities exist in the socio-economic development of a large part of the regions and municipalities in the North-West and North-Central regions, said Alexander Traikov, Deputy Regional Governor of Pleven, at the opening of the forum. He specified that the disparities are the main reason that the Pleven regional administration initiated a series of public discussions in order to form constructive partnerships between state authorities, representatives of local self-government, scientific institutes, universities and various branches.

The municipality of Pleven has implemented projects with a total value of over BGN 136 million during the 2014-2020 programming period, said Kamelia Gornenska, head of the department for monitoring and control of projects and programmes in the municipality of Pleven.

The project "Danube - River with a lot of history" worth EUR 1.4 million, under the programme for cross-border cooperation Interreg V-A Romania - Bulgaria 2014-2020, presented 45 scale models of significant cultural and historical landmarks on both sides of the river Danube, said Hristo Taslakov, chairman of the Open Hand Foundation.
