EU’s cohesion policies contribute to the development of Kazanluk municipality and EU’s cohesion policy affects every citizen and everyone who visits the town. This transpired at a local conference under the “Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future" project, which took place on Thursday at the National Press Club of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) in Kazanluk, Central Bulgaria. The project is implemented by BTA with the support of the European Commission.

Kazanluk Deputy Mayor Lilia Tsonkova said that for the third programming period the main investments that the municipality makes in the town and in the settlements are from EU funds. “We have developed our capacity, with experts who have been implementing and reporting on our projects for years,” Tsonkova said. One of the successful projects is the construction of ten social housing units for people at risk of poverty and social isolation, she said. The project is worth BGN 1.2 million.

The main financial resource that the Kazanluk municipality can draw is under the Regional Development Programme with a total budget of over 6 billion BGN, said Radka Tileva, manager of the Regional Information Centre in Stara Zagora.

The town of Kazanluk is the first municipal centre in Bulgaria to have fully electrified public transport by 2019, said engineer Kuncho Hristov of the Kazanluk Municipality.
