"At the session with President Rumen Radev, we discussed supplies of additional quantities of natural gas for Bulgaria, and back home I will consider this topic at the national level," Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said here on Friday. He talked to the media after a one-to-one session with his host. Earlier in the day, Aliyev arrived on a two-day official visit here.

"Bulgaria and Azerbaijan are now friendly and strategic partners, we are interacting far more vigorously, we have a far closer relationship," the guest pointed out.

"You can see, under the circumstances, the urgency of action and the need to respond abruptly and increase gas production," Aliyev went on to say.

"The Greece-Bulgaria interconnector is exceedingly important, and I am sure that it will make it possible for larger quantities of Azerbaijani gas to reach both you and Europe at large and will ensure Europewide energy security," the guest added.

He noted that, under a Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Energy, signed with the European Commission in July, his country will double gas production and export to Europe. "We have the resources: 2.5 trillion cu m of natural gas, and we have numerous options of transmission over a variety of infrastructures. I can say that we have considerable achievements in this department, and they serve as a starting point for future initiatives and cooperation," the Azerbaijani leader said.

A number of other topics figured on the agenda of his session with President Radev, such as electricity production and export and bilateral cooperation in this field, as well as the dispatch of additional quantities of oil and gas. "We can be mutually beneficial in a number of other areas," Aliyev pointed out.
