Parliamentary Groups Greet Bulgarian Muslims for Kurban Bayram

The holiday of Eid al-Adha, one of the two major holidays in Islam, marked by millions of Muslims around the world began on Tuesday. In Bulgaria it is known as Koch Bayram or Kurban Bayram.

On the occasion of the holiday, parliamentary groups extended their greeting to the Bulgarian Muslim community on Wednesday. 

National Assembly Chair Mihaela Dotsova greeted Bulgarian Muslims on the occasion of Kurban Bayram at the beginning of Wednesday’s plenary session. “I would like to extend my best wishes to all Bulgarian Muslims who are celebrating one of their most significant holidays Kurban Bayram. This holiday is an expression of human kindness, sharing, mercy and forgiveness, as well as understanding and compassion for those in need,” Dotsova said.

Prime Minister Rumen Radev said in a greeting addressed to Bulgarian Muslims that Bulgaria is a vivid example of peaceful and harmonious coexistence among different religions and traditions, built on mutual respect and understanding. "I am convinced that the Muslim community will continue to be an important factor for dialogue, tolerance, and unity in our country", the prime minister stressed.

Progressive Bulgaria extended greetings to Muslims in Bulgaria and around the world celebrating the holy holiday of Kurban Bayram with a message centered on compassion, charity and the preservation of spiritual values. On behalf of the Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group, Emine Gulestan described the holiday as a symbol of the connection between generations, forgiveness and humanity. She said the holidays encourages believers to show humility, perform good deeds and support people in need. Gulestan also expressed hope that the spirit of openness and mutual support associated with the holiday would continue beyond the celebrations themselves.

GERB leader Boyko Borissov greeted Bulgarian Muslims on the occasion of Kurban Bayram in a Facebook post stating that Bulgaria has always been an example of tolerance between different ethnicities and religions, and people should continue living this way in the future as well.

"Let the holiday remind us how important it is to live in understanding and respect," Borissov added. He wished those celebrating good health and happiness.

Continue the Change greeted Bulgarian Muslims for Kurban Bayram with a message about humility, patience, kindness and respect. 

 "Eid al-Adha is a time of faith, humility, and kindness. A holiday that reminds us that a person is strong not by dividing, but when they extend a hand, show mercy, and bring respect to others", said Aylin Pehlivanova from the parliamentary group. She added that in a world full of division and tension, the holiday reminds people how important it is to preserve humanity among themselves, to speak with respect, to live in empathy, to raise children in kindness and respect for traditions. She concluded by wishing bring peace, health and prosperity to every home.

Movement for Rights and Freedoms leader Delyan Peevski said: “Today, more than ever, we need to be a community not only in name, but in humanity. Because a nation is strong not when it is divided into “us” and “them,” but when it stands together in difficult times.

Speaking from the parliamentary rostrum, MRF MP Ayten Sabri described the holiday as not only a symbol of sacrifice, but also a reminder that true wealth lies in generosity, kindness and hope rather than material possessions.

Sabri said the holiday brings “light, humility and prosperity” and serves as an opportunity for people to reflect on their values and identity. She noted that spiritual holidays help preserve faith, dignity and humanity, especially during difficult times.
