The ruling Progressive Bulgaria party called the resignation of Borislav Sarafov from the top office of the National Investigative Service "an understandable personal decision". “Sarafov’s resignation is a personal decision that is fully understandable,” MP Rumen Milanov said in the halls of Parliament.

Sarafov announced his resignation earlier on Wednesday.

Milanov added that the resignation reflects significant public pressure on his role as acting Prosecutor General. “At the same time, I would also point to the wrong actions of some prosecutors. All of this creates this attitude toward the prosecution service,” Milanov said.

"Sarafov has the right to leave his post and no one can force him to stay. What his future path will be is a personal decision," he added.
