Transport and Communications Minister Georgi Peev met with Greece’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Alexios Marios Liberopoulos, on Tuesday, the Transport Ministry reported. The two sides agreed that Bulgaria and Greece are key partners whose cooperation along the North-South axis is crucial for the security and economic resilience of the region.

The meeting focused on the development of the Black Sea–Aegean Sea Corridor Platform. Minister Peev highlighted the successful trilateral cooperation between Bulgaria, Greece and Romania. He said that coordination among the three countries on joint infrastructure projects was a priority in order to submit a common proposal for European funding. Bulgaria’s participation in the upcoming Transport Investment Summit in Thessaloniki on June 17-18 was confirmed, where the next steps for implementing the memorandum will be discussed.

Peev also offered expert support through Bulgarian-certified equipment for flight inspections of Greek ground-based air navigation systems with the aim of maintaining high flight safety standards. He committed to sending the Greek side a concrete plan for conducting the first mission later this week.

Regarding road and rail transport, the two sides expressed a shared willingness to resume the passenger railway connection between Sofia and Thessaloniki and to update border crossing regulations. Special attention was paid to the need to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and the free movement of traffic through border checkpoints. The importance of constructive dialogue in preventing disruptions to transport traffic and blockades at border crossings was also discussed.
