Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told reporters in Plovdiv on Tuesday, "We have problems not only within the National Police General Directorate, but also in many of the Interior Ministry’s departments, however, we know what they are and will resolve them soon. Those responsible for practices that are incompatible with police work and police ethics will be removed from their posts, and some will be removed from the system."
Demerdzhiev is in Plovdiv to participate in an Interior Ministry national meeting. Attending the meeting is the political leadership of the Ministry, acting Secretary General Georgi Kandev, and the heads of the General Directorates, as well as the heads of the Regional Directorates of the Interior Ministry from Southern Bulgaria.
"We are aware of the problems, we need a bit of time to resolve these issues," Demerdzhiev added.
"The elections are over. Now, we will set the priorities we clearly stated upon taking office. We will identify the measures to implement these priorities and establish an organizational framework so that local police structures can adopt these priorities and work successfully toward their implementation," Demerdzhiev said.
"The main credit for the arrest of Vasil Mihaylov goes to the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime, which set up the operation. It worked on the case for a long time and successfully carried it out," he said.
In light of the floods that struck the country in recent days, Demerdzhiev said that measures will be taken to prevent similar crises.
