In response to comments by MRF - New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski regarding the city’s plans to acquire state-owned properties, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev said the capital needs kindergartens, cultural spaces, and parks, not empty, dilapidated buildings.
Earlier in the day, MRF - New Beginning said they will submit a proposal to impose a moratorium on the transfer of state-owned properties by the caretaker Government. The statement added that “Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev and municipal councillors from Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria-Save Sofia have prepared a scheme to acquire state properties in the capital.”
“Why shouldn’t the Sofia Municipality request properties for kindergartens, parks, and culture? That is what we want for Sofia, instead of abandoned and crumbling buildings,” Terziev stated.
Referring to Peevski, the Mayor added it is normal for Peevski, who has spent his life involved in schemes "to see schemes everywhere because he knows nothing else. Perhaps his problem is that he won’t be able to develop commercial outlets on these properties.”
Terziev noted that Thursday’s Sofia Municipal Council session will consider his proposals and similar motions from other councillors related to acquiring properties for public needs.
“I will watch with interest which councillors vote in favour, giving Sofia the chance to obtain these properties for kindergartens, parks, and cultural projects. That is what matters for Sofia, not statements from people who have nothing to do with running the city,” he said.
