Borislav Bankov has been appointed Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth, the Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.
Bankov is an established expert in innovation and international security. Since 2022, he has headed a NATO test centre for dual-use technologies at the GATE Institute at St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia.
His previous professional experience includes serving at NATO Headquarters in the Emerging Security Challenges Division (2018–2022), the Operational Capabilities Directorate of the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (2017–2018), and the Private Office of the NATO Secretary General (2015–2017).
Bankov has participated in a NATO Science and Technology Organization research task group on multi-domain operations, as well as in a working group on irregular forces and hybrid operations at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in European Studies from Maastricht University, a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from University College London, and a PhD in Political Science with a focus on International Relations from Sofia University. He has completed specializations at the University of Edinburgh, the United States Department of State, and the US National Defense University.
