site.btaVazrazhdane Urges President to Convene Consultative Council on National Security

The Vazrazhdane party has called on President Iliana Iotova to convene the National Security Consultative Council (NSCC), leader Kostadin Kostadinov told the media in Parliament on Wednesday.

Kostadinov claimed that Iotova's refusal to convene the Council indicates that something is being concealed. "I insist that the acting [sic] President exercise her powers and call the NSCC," he added.

Former Vice President Iotova is serving as President after Rumen Radev stepped down in January, a year before the end of his second term as head of State.

The Vazrazhdane leader also commented on the US Air Force aircraft stationed at Sofia Airport, asserting that "the defence minister is lying - there are no NATO or US military exercises taking place".

Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov has stated repeatedly that ten American tanker aircraft were stationed at Sofia Airport for training purposes. 

Kostadinov described the current situation as a risk to national security, arguing that "there is no greater threat to security than the actions of this caretaker government".
