Bulgaria and Hungary have long historical ties as well as long and successful traditions in the field of education, outgoing Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nikolay Vitanov said on Wednesday during the first Bulgarian-Hungarian Rectors’ Forum, held at the SamElyon complex in Samokov, Southwestern Bulgaria.
“Regardless of political changes and turbulence, the Ministry’s support for such cooperation is strong and will continue in the future. This event is another step toward strengthening our partnership and opens opportunities for deepening institutional cooperation between our higher education institutions,” the deputy minister said.
The event was opened by Prof. Miglena Temelkova, Chair of the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in Bulgaria and Rector of the University of Telecommunications and Post. She welcomed the participants to the first edition of the forum.
Prof. Bela Merkely, President of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, said he was delighted to welcome participants to the first Bulgarian–Hungarian Rectors’ Forum held in Bulgaria. He noted that Hungary is implementing new educational approaches and hosts some of the leading universities. "Our goal is to share good practices," he noted.
The Rectors’ Forum is dedicated to the topic of higher education as a key to innovation and regional development and aims to encourage cooperation and the exchange of good practices between higher education institutions in Bulgaria and Hungary. The programme also includes the signing of memoranda of cooperation between Bulgarian and Hungarian universities, laying the foundation for sustainable educational exchange between the two countries.
The conference is organized by the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in Bulgaria and is conducted in Bulgarian and Hungarian.
