Atanas Atanasov, an MP from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) - United Left parliamentary group and head of the BSP Youth organization stated in a press release on Friday that the only thing his party will insist on is that the machines currently used for voting count the votes, print out a protocol and the receipts that come out should also be counted. He added that it is dangerous to make last-minute changes to the Election Code.

According to Atanasov, the current voting machines should not just be printers but should return to their full functionality: "counting votes, printing protocols, counting receipts, and checking both protocols".

"As for the scanning machines, we should not worry people again about how they will vote. There is not enough time to train election administrators and explain to voters how to use the new machines," the MP commented.

An extraordinary meeting of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee has been scheduled for Friday. The agenda includes the second reading of the consolidated draft bill amending the Election Code. The texts, which were adopted yesterday, relate to optical devices for scanning ballots.
