The minesweeper Priboy from the Sixth Division of Mine Countermeasure Ships of the Bulgarian Navy will participate in the eighth activation of the Mine Countermeasures Black Sea Task Group (MCM Black Sea), the press service of the Bulgarian Navy in Varna said on Wednesday.
Currently, Priboy is sailing to Turkiye, where it will be present at the MCM Black Sea command transfer ceremony between Romania to Turkiye.
The main tasks of the MCM Black Sea include conducting reconnaissance and surveillance operations for sea mines, conducting mine countermeasure actions in the designated areas, and participating in joint exercises to improve interoperability. In addition, the participants contribute to increasing NATO's situational awareness in the Black Sea.
MCM Black Sea was established with the signing of a memorandum between Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkiye in early 2024, with the aim of ensuring maritime traffic safety and countering the threat of naval mines.
