site.btaBulgaria to Allocate EUR 100 Mln to Improve Pay for Healthcare Professionals from 2026
At a news briefing following a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian Association of Healthcare Professionals on Wednesday, Health Minister Silvi Kirilov said that, as of 2026, “a very substantial financial resource will be allocated for healthcare professionals”. His comments came in response to a reporter’s question about whether their salaries would be increased 2026.
“Yesterday (ed. Tuesday), Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova mentioned the figure of EUR 100 million, and I confirm it. The money is from a European programme,” Kirilov added. According to him, the guarantee that the pay rise will happen is that Petkova and the government have identified the problem. “It is now up to us to find the mechanisms,” Kirilov said.
“I am extremely satisfied with the meeting. The topic has been overdue for a long time, this was not our first meeting. We discussed various options and are now taking a different path. I am optimistic that we will achieve a good result that satisfies these very important professions,” Kirilov said.
The Health Ministry will develop a new support programme for healthcare professionals. It is expected to be ready within two months and is financially secured with an additional EUR 100 million from operational programmes, Deputy Health Minister Yavor Penchev said on Tuesday in a Facebook post.
