site.btaPresident on Wednesday's Anti-government Protests: "People Got ahead of Parliament and Voted No Confidence in Cabinet"
In a Facebook post on Wednesday night, President Rumen Radev commented on the large-scale protests demanding the Government's resignation across the country. "The people got ahead of Parliament and voted no confidence in the Cabinet tonight [Wednesday]. An unprecedented number of Bulgarians of all ages and political affiliations gathered in the squares of Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas... throughout Bulgaria and Europe. The protest gave rise to a broad popular consensus against the mafia, which is more important than all differences, than all attempts to appropriate hope," the post reads.
Addressing MPs, Radev wrote: "Tomorrow [Thursday] you will choose between the dignity of free voting and the shame of dependence. Between the voice of the people and the fear of the mafia. Listen to the squares! It's your move! My choice is clear."
On Thursday, the National Assembly is scheduled to vote on a no-confidence motion over the Cabinet's economic policy. The motion was submitted by Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, who were also the organizers of Wednesday's protests.
