Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev held a farewell meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Hisashi Michigami, Georgiev’s Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
Georgiev thanked Ambassador Michigami for his efforts to promote Bulgarian-Japanese relations. During the talks, both sides highly valued the upward development of bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, including the intensification of high-level political dialogue and the expansion of economic, cultural and academic exchanges, in the context of the strategic partnership established this year between Bulgaria and Japan.
The Bulgarian side congratulated Japan on the successful preparations for hosting EXPO Osaka 2025 and voiced satisfaction with Bulgaria’s participation in the event. The Japanese Ambassador, in turn, congratulated Bulgaria on its progress towards accession to Schengen and the euro area, as well as on the country’s advancement in the OECD accession process.
The meeting highlighted prospects for further sectoral cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, security and defence, innovation, science and technology, culture, education and tourism, as well as in development cooperation for the Western Balkans.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to closer coordination on key international issues, including support for Ukraine, both bilaterally and within the EU-Japan and NATO-Japan partnerships, based on shared values.
