Addressing the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Monday, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nikolay Vitanov said that Bulgaria supports the vision for a strong, inclusive, and sustainable education system that builds skills for life, work, and active citizenship.

Quoted by the Ministry’s press service, Vitanov outlined five key priorities that Bulgaria is pursuing within the framework of this vision for transforming education. These are: improving core skills such as literacy, mathematical, scientific, and digital competence; strengthening STEM and STEAM education; supporting teaching professionals through training in the integration of artificial intelligence and digital resources; increasing student motivation and promoting inclusive education; and reducing inequalities.

The Deputy Minister also presented the progress achieved under Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, including the establishment of centres of excellence in 28 vocational high schools, renovations of 42 dormitories, and modernization of more than 150 training workshops and laboratories.

The UNESCO General Conference is taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from October 30 to November 13. The forum brings together representatives of UNESCO’s 194 member states, along with international institutions, academia, and non-governmental partners.
