The Prosecution Service, the Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Central Election Commission (CEC) discussed joint measures to ensure lawful, fair and transparent elections, to prevent and counter electoral offences, and to guarantee citizens’ political rights, the public prosecution reported on Friday. The meeting was held at Sofia’s Palace of Justice ahead of the April 19 early parliamentary elections.

The discussion dwelled on practical issues related to the electoral process, including active institutional responses to reports of violations and crimes, with the aim of ensuring rapid and adequate reactions to any attempt to compromise the vote of Bulgarian citizens.

Participants in the meeting included Deputy Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova, prosecutors from the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor’s Office, CEC Chair Kameliya Neykova and Deputy Chairs Rositsa Mateva, Emil Voynov and Tsvetozar Tomov, acting Interior Ministry Secretary General Georgi Kandev, National Police Director Emil Parmakov and his deputy Ivan Madzharov, Security Police chief Venelin Mladenov and representatives from SANS.

On Wednesday, acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov held a working session with the leadership of the Interior Ministry and SANS in preparation for the upcoming elections. “We are fully aware of our responsibility and duty to society and will not succumb to provocations, violate the law, or decide cases in anyone’s interest,” Sarafov said.
