site.btaSerbia Issues Red Alert for Extreme Heat, Temperatures to Reach 42°C by Friday
A red weather alert has been issued across Serbia due to hot air masses moving in from North Africa. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 40°C from today through Thursday, and 42°C on Friday, according to Serbia’s meteorological service and the Ministry of the Interior.
As of 8 a.m. local time on Monday, the highest temperature was recorded in Belgrade at 29°C. Other readings included 27°C in Novi Sad, 26°C in Kragujevac, and 24°C in Nis. The lowest was in Sjenica (southwestern Serbia) at 14°C. By 11 a.m., Belgrade had already reached 32°C.
The Ministry of the Interior warned that the heatwave will significantly increase the risk of wildfires, especially in areas with dry soil and little recent rainfall. The risk will be highest on Friday, particularly in hilly and mountainous regions where moderate to strong southwesterly winds are expected.
