Romanian President Nicusor Dan and King Felipe VI of Spain visited the Cincu military training area in Central Romania, the President’s Administration said in a press release received at the BTA office in Bucharest on Tuesday.

Dan thanked his guest for the excellent bilateral relations and the strong partnership between the two countries. He said the Romanian community in Spain helps to enhance bilateral ties.

The President further thanked the Spanish military for their efforts, together with servicepersons from Romania, Belgium and Luxembourg, to reinforce the operability of the NATO troops in Romania and to strengthen NATO’s defence position in the Black Sea region. He wished the allied forces good luck during the exercise with the Romanian troops. “Only together can we be effective in providing the security necessary for the development of our democratic societies. Together we will make Europe safer,” Dan said.

King Felipe said that Spain and Romania maintain strategic partnership based on a solid people-to-people bond. He noted that the two nations’ defence cooperation in NATO has been particularly intensive since 2021.

The monarch said the Spanish Air Force has had five rotations on NATO’s eastern flank, where radar systems were deployed, showing Spain’s dedication to the Alliance’s mission. In November 2024, the Spanish contingent in the French-led NATO Battlegroup enhanced its presence in Romania, he said.

According to the King of Spain, Romania feels every day the consequences of the war started by Russia in Ukraine. He said Spain is determined to provide further support to Ukraine to defend European values.
