site.btaQuality of Education Dependent on Meeting Needs of Young People, Says Head of Regional Education Department in Lovech

A very important condition of the quality of education is that the educational environment meets the needs of young people, Dr. Ivanichka Burovska, head of the Regional Education Department in Lovech, said during a local conference held here on Monday. The event was part of BTA’s Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project.
She pointed out that the entire region is about to gradually open STEM centres. "In order to talk about competencies, about transforming knowledge into skills, children must learn by doing and through experience. What they touch with their hands, they visualize and leave a lasting mark in their consciousness, while theory alone cannot bring them skills and competencies," she pointed out.
Burovska emphasized that an important point is the inclusion of children from a very early age in kindergarten, adding that attracting parents as active partners is also of great importance. The activities under the Strong Start project are also directed in this direction, she pointed out. "I should note that all kindergartens in Lovech Region are working on it, all 31 kindergartens and 11 schools that offer preschool education", she stated.
"If parents are not active partners in the education system, we cannot achieve our goals," Burovska stressed, adding that attention must be paid to children with special educational needs and children who are at risk or with chronic diseases. The goal is to pay attention to the personal development of each child from the earliest childhood, she noted.
She said that another major project that is being worked on is to modernize vocational education and training, pointing out that about 70% of vocational classes have been covered in Lovech Region. "Time has shown that joint activities and partnerships between the Regional Government, municipalities and businesses lead to results and the activities under the project for the modernization of vocational education and training are aimed at acquiring skills and working in a real working environment," Burovska emphasized.
"It is very important when we talk about the success of students that they are first included in the education system. Without them being in it, we cannot increase the results and for them to achieve knowledge, skills and competencies," Burovska emphasized, adding that the regional education department fully supports all schools that work on national projects and programmes, because it believes that this is the way for children to be included and the education system to be modernized, Burovska concluded.
BTA's Europe on Balkans: Cohesion Skills project aims to raise public awareness and foster open dialogue about cohesion policy, local achievements, and the implementation of the EU's policy priorities.
