An Albanian national wanted for murder in Greece has been detained in Bulgaria, the District Prosecutor's Office in the southwesten town of Kyustendil said on Monday. The man is on an international wanted list, based on a European Arrest Warrant issued by an Athens court for a crime punishable with life imprisonment.

He was detained for up to 72 hours.

The man, identified as S.G., 49, attempted to enter this country on November 16, 2023, via the Gyueshevo checkpoint on Bulgaria's border with North Macedonia. 

In Greece, the detainee is wanted for three offences: premeditated murder, illegal possession and use of a firearm. These offences are also punishable by imprisonment under the Bulgarian Penal Code.
