Eleven streets in the Bolhrad municipality will bear the names of the soldiers killed in the region during the war in Ukraine and the 2014 operation.

This decision was approved at a session of the Bolhrad city council on 23 February, the city council said on its website. The aim is to perpetuate the memory of the fallen soldiers of the Bolhrad municipality.

Six of the fallen soldiers have Bulgarian roots. Six streets will be renamed in the city of Bolhrad, three in the nearby Bulgarian villages Zaliznichnoye and Vladicheni, and one in the village of Oksamitnoye.

The names of the fallen citizens of Bolgrad are: Alexander Kalov, Sergei Bakhchedzhi, Maxim Medinsky, Igor Hinyov, Ruslan Prusov, Viktor Otserklevich and Yuri Bondarenko.

The names of two residents of the Bulgarian village of Zaliznichnoye, Ruslan Dunev and Konstantin Karagyoz, will be immortalised. In the Bulgarian village of Vladicheni one of the streets will be named after Viktor Kozhurin from Bolhrad, and in the village of Oksamitnoye a street will be named after Sergei Manulov.
