Rain and snowfall hit Romania over the weekend, complicating conditions in many parts of the country, local media report.

“Winter has returned to Romania; Easter is approaching, yet it seems we are preparing for Christmas,” noted Antena 1 TV in its report.

In some mountainous areas, the snow cover reached 175 cm.

“Around mid-week, another cyclone is expected, which will bring new rainfall in the lowlands and snowfall in the mountains,” meteorologist Alina Serban said on PRO TV.

An orange warning for flood danger is in effect for four counties in Romania - Covasna, Harghita, Vrancea, and Bacau. Due to the increased risk of the Putna River overflowing, dozens of people from Bailesti and Mircestii Vechi were evacuated. A protective barrier made of 2,000 sandbags has been built.

The unstable weather also triggered an extreme meteorological phenomenon near the border with Bulgaria. A mini-tornado formed near the Romanian village of Cernetu in Teleorman County, located a few kilometers from Ruse.
