Colonel Ozlem Karapinar is set to become the first female general in the Turkish Air Force after the Supreme Military Council approved her promotion to brigadier general on Tuesday, Turkish news outlet En Son Haber reported.
The decision, which will take effect on August 30, was made at the Council's meeting, chaired by Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.
The meeting reviewed promotions, appointments, and retirements within the country's armed forces.
The Turkish Air Force's command has also changed following the retirement of General Ziya Cemal Kadioglu, who has been succeeded by General Rafet Dalkiran, the former commander of the Combat Air Force.
