A new platform, the Global Media Centre, will start operating in Greece on April 1 to collect and analyze news related to the country from various media outlets and sources, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a forum in the Greek capital Athens, where politicians, journalists, academics and media experts are discussing issues such as disinformation and freedom of speech, Gerapetritis explained that the new platform, operating under the Greek Foreign Ministry, will also verify the credibility of information.
After the data are processed, swift responses through public diplomacy tools will be possible whenever inaccurate or misleading publications appear, Gerapetritis said.
The project is financed through the European Recovery and Resilience Facility and aims to enable the State to monitor in real time what news is being disseminated about Greece, the degree of their credibility and what response actions are needed.
The forum will conclude on Wednesday evening with a speech by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
