The photo exhibition “Bosilegrad: Then and Now” will be presented as part of the cultural program of the 17th edition of the “I Am a Bulgarian” festival, taking place this weekend in Bucharest, Romania. The visit of the Bosilegrad delegation, which includes two children awarded in this year’s festival competitions, is taking place at the invitation of the organizers.

Representatives of the Bosilegrad association GLAS will be able to showcase part of the photo exhibition, which was also displayed in Timisoara in the spring. The exhibition consists of 40 panels featuring scenes and landscapes from Bosilegrad and nearby villages, and also highlights traditional Bosilegrad costumes. The photos were taken by Bulgarian photographers Asen Velikov, Vihren Georgiev, and Vladislav Chanev during the first photo plein-air event in Bosilegrad, held in the summer of 2023.

The festival’s cultural program, hosted at the Bulgarian Embassy in Bucharest on November 14 includes exhibitions of the winners and participants of drawing competitions, and a screening of the short film “The Transformative Power of Words in Bulgarian Rituals”, presented by the Regional Library in Shumen.

On the second day of the festival program, Saturday morning, a children’s workshop titled will take place at the Yordan Yovkov Bulgarian Sunday School. Also, the Bulgarian Embassy in Bucharest will host a traditional roundtable on “Associations in Action: Practices, Activities, Interactions”, as well as the official opening of the photo exhibition “Bosilegrad: Then and Now”.

The gala concert and awards ceremony will take place on Saturday at 3 pm, featuring performances by the “Bulgarche” ensemble from Vinga, Romania, students from Yordan Yovkov Bulgarian Sunday School, and the laureates of the 17th Festival of Bulgarians Worldwide “I Am a Bulgarian”. On Sunday, the festival hosts have planned a tour of Bucharest’s landmarks for the participants.
