On October 17, 1975, the feature film Doomed Souls, based on the novel of the same name by Dimitar Dimov, premiered at Dimitar Blagoev Cinema in Sofia. The film was written and directed by Vulo Radev, with cinematography by Hristo Totev and music composed by Mitko Shterev.

The cast features Hungarian actress Edit Szalay, Polish actor Jan Englert, and Bulgarian actors Rousy Chanev and Mariana Dimitrova.

Filming began in early 1974 and took place in Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. Even before its official premiere, Doomed Souls received the Gold Medal for Best Feature Film at the Sixth International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films, held in Varna between June 16 and 25, 1975.

According to a survey conducted in November 1975, more than 175,000 viewers watched the film in Sofia cinemas within the first week after its premiere.
