Students in Serbia have announced plans for a new large-scale protest in May, according to a post on their X profile titled “Students Win!”.
In several posts, students involved in ongoing university blockades hinted at organizing another demonstration similar to the mass anti-government protests held over the past year and a half.
The protests were triggered by the tragic incident on November 1, 2024, when a concrete canopy collapsed at a recently renovated railway station in Novi Sad, killing 16 people and seriously injuring another.
On Monday, the students referenced the dates of previous large protests, December 22, 2024, at Slavija Square in Belgrade, and March 15 and June 28, 2025, also in Belgrade, writing that “this series will soon continue,” and adding: “See you soon!”
The phrase “See you soon!” had also appeared in their initial social media messages in late 2024, when students began blocking universities and suspending classes in solidarity with the victims of the November 1 tragedy.
On May 5, 2025, the students for the first time called for early parliamentary elections in Serbia.
According to posts on X, the new protest is again expected to take place in May, although no specific date has yet been announced.
