August 14, 1963 saw the launch of the first Bulgarian electronic digital computer, Vitosha. It was shown to the public for the first time at a Bulgarian national exhibition in Moscow, USSR, in August 1963. The machine was designed for mathematical and scientific and technical calculations.

The main structure, in which 200 pieces of "chassis" were placed, was 4 m wide and 2 m high. The machine had a memory of 4,096 words.

The computer's conceptual design and logical structure were specified in late 1961, and setup began in the spring of 1963. Almost all parts were
made in the laboratory and workshop of the Institute of Mathematics with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). The machine was developed within the Construction of Digital Electronic Dump Machines project, supervised by BAS Chief Scientific Secretary Lyubomir Iliev.

The team that developed the computer includes Assoc. Prof. Blagovest Sendov, Georgi Alipiev, Dimitar Bogdanov, Dimitar Rachev, Encho Karmakov, Ilich
Yulzari, Ivan Stanchev, Koril Boyanov, Maria Dimitrova, Rafi Aslanyan, and Stefan Peshev.
