Egyptologist Vesela Atanasova presented her new children's book, "The Eye of Ra", and delivered a public lecture on ancient civilizations at BTA's National Press Club in Athens on Saturday.
Children from Bulgarian Sunday schools in the Greek capital and representatives of the Bulgarian community attended the event, where they learned about gods, symbols and stories from Ancient Egypt, as well as about cultural links across the Mediterranean.
Atanasova said this is her second book in the Ancient Myths and Legends series, aimed at sparking children's interest in ancient civilizations. The book retells the myth of the Eye of Ra and includes illustrations of original Egyptian scenes and a glossary of unfamiliar words.
The event is part of a project titled "Bulgaria and Greece: From Ancient Civilizations to Contemporary Relations" under a national programme, "The Untold Stories of the Bulgarians".
Implemented by the Ivan Seliminski Cultural Centre in Athens, the project brings together two Bulgarian researchers from the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences - Prof. Yura Konstantinova and Vesela Atanasova.
Konstantinova studies Bulgarian-Greek relations from the 19th century to the present day, while Atanasova researches cultural links between Ancient Thrace, Egypt and the Minoan civilization on Crete Island.
