site.btaOver 1,000 People Detained by Police in Istanbul During Security Operations
Teams from the General Security Directorate of Turkiye carried out two large-scale police operations in different parts of Istanbul, Turkiye on Thursday. According to Turkish state television and radio TRT Haber, a total of 1,114 people were detained for various crimes and violations during operations carried out under the code name Huzur (Peace). Of these, 550 were wanted for various crimes.
Nearly 1,500 police officers took part in the first operation, which took place between 8 and 10 p.m. local time on Thursday. Checks were carried out in various areas on the European and Asian shores of the Turkish metropolis, including passenger ports. The operation involved police helicopters and five boats carrying officers from the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs.
The second operation, which took place between 10 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., involved checks at over 300 public places and establishments, with the participation of 1,256 police officers.
A total of 358,615 people were questioned during the operations using the General Information System.
Legal action was taken against 26 foreign nationals, whose nationalities were not disclosed, as well as administrative action against 42 individuals and one business.
The checks also resulted in the seizure of 26 illegally possessed pistols, three rifles, 11 gas pistols, 41 cartridges, 1,927 grams of drugs, 457 narcotic substances in pill form, and 1,955 pounds, USD 100 and EUR 100, believed to have been earned from drug sales.
