The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) will continue to demand moderate wage growth and seek a differentiation of income increases within budgetary systems, said CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov here on Friday. He was speaking during the Fourth Scientific Conference of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research and Training (ISSIO), organized by CITUB in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Bulgaria. This year's theme is “Social imbalances in the context of the digital economy and climate transition.”

According to Dimitrov, it is unreasonable for sectors that have already received a 50% increase in salaries to demand further increases. Those with a 5% pay rise will cover inflation, but a further increase will be needed in 2026. Dimitrov also said that, salaries in the private sector should be increased so that the cost of labour is attractive.

The CITUB President also commented that people around the country are worried about the cost of living. He believes this has more to do with the processes that began 4-5 years ago following the disruption to global supply chains caused by the pandemic, than with the adoption of the euro.
