Art critic Boris Kitanov said that the colour in Vassil Stoev’s world reveals the full force of his emotions, during the opening of the Islands of Light exhibition at the Vejdi Gallery in Sofia on Thursday.
Kitanov noted that Stoev’s paintings can be interpreted in two ways: by identifying the artist's signature, which indicates the bottom of the canvas, and by observing the use of colour. He observed that the latter invites viewers to imagine, explore, and rediscover beauty: an experience he believes people are starting to overlook. Kitanov also pointed out that society is increasingly marked by harsh language and actions driven by hatred and violence, making moments of beauty more essential than ever.
National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova, attending the event, noted that beauty is essential in a time marked by widespread hate and violence.
The gallery’s owner and former culture minister Vejdi Rashidov called Stoev a natural-born painter, noting that his soul is inherently connected to colour. “He effortlessly works with color and shapes it according to his vision.”
Additional attendees at the exhibition opening were MP Petar Kanev and BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.
