The water supply in Petrich has been stable throughout the summer season, Petrich Water Supply and Sewerage Company (WSSC) Manager Ivaylo Hristov told BTA on Friday.

He emphasized that there is no water scarcity in Petrich and no water regime is planned, which is due to the proper management of resources. "This includes regular maintenance, control of the water supply network and optimal use of natural resources", Hristov noted, adding that the region has reliable water sources that cover needs even during the busiest months.

People are satisfied because they know that in other regions residents suffer from water shortages, he stressed, pointing out that this makes them appreciate the stability they have even more. Hristov commented that prevention is key to solving water shortages and that critical situations can be avoided with long-term thinking and good organization and communication between the mayor, municipal administration, municipal council and the municipal water supply and sewerage company.

The water supply network in the town of Petrich is currently being repaired within the framework of a project of Petrich Municipality. The implementation of this project will significantly improve the quality of drinking water, Hristov emphasized, adding that the water will be cleaner after replacing the current water pipes.

"Petrich shows that sustainable management is possible and achievable," Hristov emphasized. He warned however that a common practice in the villages of the Petrich Municipality is the unregulated diversion of water, which further complicates the problem of water shortages. That is why the WSSC carries out periodic inspections, with violators being issued a protocol with the established violation and a report being submitted to the competent bodies of the Interior Ministry and the District Prosecutor's Office.
